Your reading stays yours
Still stores your imported text, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, saved words, and reading preferences on your device. Reading and local file imports work without a Still account. Still has no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. We do not operate a server that receives your reading library. We do not sell your personal information.
Files and shared articles
Still accesses files you choose in Files or share with the app. A shared item is copied into Still’s shared inbox and removed from that inbox after it is imported or you discard it. If you share a webpage link, Still may request that page directly from its publisher to extract readable text. The publisher receives the requested address and ordinary network information, such as your IP address, under its own privacy policy. Still does not load the page’s advertising scripts or remote images. Opening research sources or support links also connects to the destination website.
Reading aloud and definitions
Read aloud uses Apple’s speech synthesis and the voices available on your iPhone. Definitions use Apple’s system dictionary. Still does not record your microphone or create recordings of your voice. Apple may provide or download voices and dictionaries under its own service terms and privacy policy.
Still Pro purchases
An optional one-time Still Pro purchase removes the personal library limit. Apple processes payment through your Apple Account. Still uses Apple’s signed StoreKit transactions on your device to verify purchase status, restore access, and respond to refunds or revocations. Still does not receive your payment card information or send purchase receipts to a developer-operated server. Purchase access is not stored in library backups. Your existing readings remain readable if the purchase is no longer active.
Optional iCloud sync
iCloud sync is off by default. If you enable it, Still saves library snapshots, including your full reading text, positions, saved items, and deletion records, in your iCloud document container so your devices can merge changes. A random installation identifier names each device’s snapshot. It is not used for advertising or tracking. Apple operates iCloud under its privacy policy; we do not receive your iCloud credentials or a copy of your library. Turning sync off stops Still’s syncing and keeps your local library. It does not erase copies already in iCloud.
Backups, retention, and deletion
Your local library stays on your device until you remove its contents or delete the app. You can delete readings in the library and saved items in Saved; deletions are included in subsequent syncs when sync is enabled. Older snapshots on other devices and recovery copies can retain earlier content. Still keeps a local recovery copy before certain library migrations or backup restores. Exported backups contain your full reading text and saved items, so store them somewhere you trust. You control exported files through Files. Deleting the app removes its local data but does not automatically remove exported backups, other devices’ copies, or iCloud data. You can manage iCloud storage in your Apple Account settings. Your device’s Apple backup settings may also include Still’s local data.
Support and changes to this policy
If you choose to contact support, we use the information you send to respond and investigate the issue. Avoid sending private reading material unless it is necessary and you want to share it. Apple may provide diagnostics or store analytics according to your Apple settings and its privacy policy. We will update this policy if Still’s data practices change. The date above identifies this version.
